Trade and Travel on Tellene
Even when compared with magic, monsters and religious fervor, the most powerful force on Tellene remains the same – trade. But two further forces also drive trade in the Sovereign Lands: convenience and desire. Convenience is the maxim of every prudent person – never attempt to make at home what will be cheaper to buy. Desire, on the other hand, relates to any item or service that is either required for the buyer’s survival (such as food or weapons) or needed to improve the buyer’s standard of living.

Tellene possesses numerous Methods of Trade to facilitate the transfer of goods and services from one person or entity to another. This economic setup allows for specialization and division of labor amongst the populace, with most people concentrating on one profession or small aspect of production, and trading for other products and services. In turn, this has lead to the evolution of artisans, merchants and Guilds. Trade has also greatly increased Travel on Tellene, as merchants move commodities to buyers in other places, and kingdoms trade with their neighbors.

For the most part, merchants stick to a well-known land, river or sea route. These Trade Routes are usually better patrolled than other areas, but there is still the ever present danger of bandits, who know that all they have to do is secrete themselves along the route and wait.
